Features of M-Fold Sheeting

Plastic sheeting is a broad category that includes roll stock, plastic bags, liners and containers. Often, plastic sheeting can be purchased by the roll. You can find sheeting cut to a specific width and with a particular mil thickness, based on the needs of your application.

M-fold sheeting is folded in the shape of an M, allowing a wide width of plastic to ship on a much smaller roll. For example, an 8-foot-wide sheet can be folded down to a 2-foot width before it is wound onto a roll. M-fold sheeting is first folded along the center, then unfolded and folded into small sections toward the crease.

Applications for M-Fold Roll Stock

M-fold stock has multiple uses, depending on its thickness. These applications include:

  • Greenhouse walls and doors
  • Construction material coverings
  • Tarp or floor protection
  • Machinery and equipment coverings
  • Temporary windows or doors
  • Moisture or vapor barriers

Specifications

Our M-fold roll stock is available in several configurations. Specifications include:

  • Density: Density is the weight per volume of the sheeting.
  • Mil: Mil is one-thousandth of an inch. M-fold sheeting is available in a range of mil thicknesses depending on your needs.
  • Weight: Basis weight is how much one ream of film weighs. It varies based on thickness and density.
  • Width: M-fold sheeting is available in several widths, all of which are folded down to fit on a much smaller roll. In addition to the 8-foot example above, a 12-foot-wide sheet can be folded into a 3-foot-wide roll.

Materials

Several types of materials can be used to create M-fold roll stock. Polyethylene is a common material, available in low to high densities. Another option is linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which is generally stronger than standard low-density polyethylene and has better impact and tear resistance. Butane and hexane LLDPE are other examples of LLDPE materials, both of which have high strength and tear resistance.

Colors

M-fold roll stock is available in clear or opaque colors, such as white or black. Clear sheeting can be ideal for use in greenhouses or as temporary barriers, while opaque sheeting is better suited for coverings or protection.
