Organizations and contractors that supply and transport goods for federal and military use are required to ensure that those items are packaged in accordance with the applicable regulations issued by the Department of Defense — or DoD. And when the products are highly sensitive and susceptible to damage from electronic discharges — for example, electronic components — all packaging material needs to provide adequate shielding.

At Caltex Plastics, we provide an array of electrostatic discharge — or ESD — bags, including the following.

MIL-PRF-81705E TYPE I CLASS 1

These bags are manufactured using an A.S. BON / PET / Foil / A.S. PET layered structure and converted according to MIL-DTL-117. They have excellent electromagnetic and electrostatic shielding properties and a low MVTR. As such, they can be used to package items such as diodes, sensitive resistors and field effect transistors in semiconductor devices and microcircuits that need to be protected from moisture and ESD.

As naval and naval aviation environments tend to have high moisture levels with a high salt concentration, MIL-PRF 81705E Type I Class 2 formerly known as MIL-B-81705E materials are well-suited to protect items and components during transportation, storage and handling.

CP STAT 100M MIL-SPEC-PRF BAGS

Our robust CP STAT 100M bags are on the QPL for MIL-SPEC-PRF 81705E Type 3 Class 2 packaging and MIL-DTL-117H. Intended for use in instances where a transparent, electrostatic-protective, electrostatic field protective, waterproof barrier is needed, they’re resistant to wear and offer outstanding electrostatic shielding properties. Their five-layer, metal-in construction forms a Faraday Cage that protects microcircuits, sensitive resistors, semiconductors and similar higher assemblies.

At the same time, these MIL-SPEC-PRF Type 3 Class II bags are strong enough to withstand tears and punctures. They’re available in T-seal, bottom gusset and side gusset configurations and in three styles — flat, recloseable lip and tape and zipper. They contain no amides or amines, are polycarbonate-compatible and are N-Octanoic acid free. In addition, they’re REACH, Conflict Materials and Lead-free RoHS 2 compliant. Moreover, the thermal transfer process we use for printing doesn’t impact the physical or electrical integrity of the bag.

MIL-SPEC COMPLIANCE

Materials intended for federal or military use are subject to a set of standards — or MIL-STD — issued by the DoD. A further set of specifications — referred to as MIL-SPEC — goes into more detail. In 2001, MIL-SPEC-DTL 117 was established to define the requirements packaging and shipping materials used by military contractors and associated manufacturers must meet.
